Sail Away with Me

Grade 4 recently focused on the gorgeous views around us.  Students discussed background, middle ground and foreground, as well as defining cityscape and landscape.  Students worked in an step-by-step manner to create these amazing works of art.  We focused on repetition of color, texture and shapes (both geometric and organic).  I am in awe of the results!!!

Let There Be Light

The McGlynn School 3rd graders are finishing up their amazing lighthouses! Horizon, coast, foreground, middle ground, background, reflection, highlight, shadow, cylinder, and texture are all key elements in these works of art! I will be sending these works to the Medford Public Library for an upcoming display. Details will be posted shortly.

Check out our fall projects!

It was an exciting fall for first graders at the Roberts. We kicked off the year with sailboats near and far where we worked hard on a crayon/watercolor resist. Then we created dancing stick figures as we played with lines – straight, curved, wiggly, contour, etc. We then switched gears to learn about our 3 Primary Colors and how to mix them together to make our Secondary Colors – Orange pumpkins on Green grass with Purple shadows!

Scarecrows and Van Gogh!

This past fall, second graders at the Roberts took planning and design to a whole new level…an awesome level! The students worked so hard to plan and sketch their ideas and then did a beautiful job of coloring and painting in layers to achieve a fantastic finished product. Together we learned about the harvest, line, foreground/middle ground/background, color, texture, landscapes, Vincent Van Gogh, and how taking our time really pays off!

Its been a Fantastic Fall for 3rd Graders at the Roberts!

Owls in Moonlight, Pattern Leaves, and The Color Wheel…oh my! Its been a very busy fall for 3rd graders at the Roberts as we learned about night time colors and watercolor resists, and then lines to make shapes, patterns and designs and finally we finished off with the most difficult of all, creating our own color wheels using just the primary colors alone! All our hard work has really paid off…see for yourself!

4th Grade Projects are in at the Roberts!

As we move into winter at the Roberts, the 4th grade projects are complete and ready to be shown off! We have learned a great deal about line and how to use it to make shapes and patters or how to make a round shape look 3D. And we also learned to use “night time colors” and also complimentary colors. We have had a blast and it shows in our art…take a look!

First Graders at the Roberts Sail Away!

After learning about the size of objects near and far, first graders at the Roberts drew sailboats near and far and also added in a background to help us imagine where these boats were sailing away to. We finished off our pencil and crayon drawings with watercolors to create a watercolor resist. The white crayon was the most exciting surprise of all!
