Apple picking time is here! What better way to incorporate the colors and sights of the season than through painting!

Mrs. Bello’s first grade students have been hard at work over the past few weeks. Students were given a look into the life of French painter, Paul Cezanne. We were lucky enough to have a wonderful online resource at the Metropolitan Museum of Art which made our learning experience richer through the use of technology. Students studied various types of apples, from Red Delicious to Granny Smith. We looked at color size and shape, as well as how we could create our own still-life of this gorgeous fruit. Students painted their apples, added pastel detail, prepared backgrounds, cut and arranged apples and still had time to complement their classmates on a job well done! I am so proud of their hard work.

Welcome Back!

Summer certainly was amazing!  Welcome back McGlynn School! We had beautiful weather and so much to celebrate.  This summer taught us so much about the power of social media and giving through the ALS #icebucketchallenge It was a wonderful reminder of how one person can start a chain reaction that makes such a positive impact on so many lives.  Now that we are back in school, it is important to remember the weight of our actions and how they may impact others.  We have a chance to spread a positive message, or a negative one.  My goal for this year is to choose positivity and happiness over anxiety and worry.  Students should feel safe and happy in my class room so that they may truly enjoy their learning experience.  Please take a moment to admire some of the art that brought so much joy and a sense of pride to our students last school year.  I only hope that this year our artists express themselves in a way that impacts you the way they have impacted me.  Have a wonderful school year!!
